The New York Yankees made the World Series this season for the first time since 2009. Aaron Boone’s team would come up short, losing to Dave Roberts and the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

Now, Brian Cashman and the Yankees turn their attention to free agency, where they see multiple key contributors entering the open market. The top player on New York’s radar is its superstar outfielder Juan Soto.

But they’re also set to lose starting second baseman Gleyber Torres. Torres put himself back on Yankees fan’s radar with a strong postseason, but Cashman doesn’t sound too sure if he’ll bring the two-time All-Star back.

“I’m not gonna dissect what he’s good at and not as good at. Obviously he’ll have a lot of conversations with a lot of teams that have a need in that area and that might include us, who knows. But appreciate his efforts while he was here,” Cashman said about Torres.

Cashman also goes on to state that he’s absolutely not closing any doors with Torres, but he doesn’t seem very confident that they’re going to bring him back.

Cashman mentioned a few paths to replacing him including adding a third baseman and moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. over to second base.

Adding a third baseman like Alex Bregman has been mentioned by MLB insiders over the last few weeks. Cashman also mentions replacing Torres with an infielder from within the organization.
