EU Parliament: North Korean deployment is ‘new phase’ in Ukraine war
The European Parliament on Thursday condemned the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia’s war with Ukraine and criticized China for its assistance to Moscow.
Lawmakers adopted a resolution denouncing Russia’s use of North Korean forces and its testing of new ballistic missiles on Ukraine, arguing the “recent escalatory steps represent a new phase in the war and a new risk for Europe’s security.”
European Union member states should “strengthen their military support for Ukraine, including through the provision of aircraft,” long-range missiles such as Taurus missiles and artillery, the declaration said.
Countries supporting Moscow’s war should also face further sanctions, the parliament agreed, highlighting China, Belarus and Iran.
Beijing in particular must “end all military or dual-use assistance it is giving to Russia,” the statement read, adding that “a refusal to change course risks seriously affecting bilateral EU-China relations.”
