Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy Tells Team to ‘Enjoy’ Current Losing Skid
The Dallas Cowboys are currently 3-6 on the season, and injuries continue to paint a bleak picture for the presumed NFC contender. Star quarterback Dak Prescott underwent season-ending surgery, and DeMarcus Lawrence remains on IR.
The good news is the team got Micah Parsons back. Still, the Cowboys are in a dangerous spot. A few more losses, and Dallas will be out of the running for a postseason berth.
Even with all the adversity, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is taking the positive route with his team, telling them to “enjoy this.”
“I’m never going to try to be somebody else. I think it’s important for all of us to operate in that phase because we were all brought here for a reason. We’ve done good things together. So we need to continue to work and stay convicted to that commitment.
“If anything, these moments really confirm who you are and why you’re here. That’s the way I look at it. I think this is an incredible opportunity for this football team, what’s in front of us. To be in this valley of adversity, to come out of this would be a great story.
“… This is a great opportunity for us. I tell these guys repeatedly, just enjoy this. This is something you can really learn from for the rest of your life.”
McCarthy explains that experience comes from adversity, and that is certainly true when it comes to the game of football. Teams have started off with a 3-6 record, or worse, and still found their way to making the playoffs.
The Cowboys are still a highly talented team, and though they lost Prescott, the team can find a way to win with either Cooper Rush or Trey Lance leading the way.
The sentiment that McCarthy is sharing has been echoed by players as well. Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson spoke with Newsweek Sports about the team’s struggles and his message to the team to turn things around.
“We talk about trusting the process. Trust it. Success is built off a bunch of little successes. When you really put your head down and you keep working, you keep trusting your process, eventually, it’s going to come your way,” Ferguson stated.
The Cowboys will need to stun the Houston Texans on Sunday to keep their season alive, along with proving they can still compete with the upper-echelon teams in the NFL.
